INSTEAD of the match ball being given to the man of the match, at the end of Ashford Town's last home game it was given to the Mayor of Spelthorne.Councillor Caroline Spencer was in the stands for the team's 3-2 win against Hastings United at the stadium in Short Lane, on Saturday, March 13.
After the match Mrs Spencer was handed the match ball, signed by every player, which she will auction to raise money for her children's charities, One to One and Guiding.
Caroline, said: "There's no better way to use spare time than watching a local football match on a lovely Saturday afternoon. Thanks to Ashford Town FC for making me feel so welcome and to the other players for signing the match football which will be auctioned in aid of my Mayoral charities."
